Cloud Engineering

When starting out as a cloud engineer (m/f/i), your initial focus will be on the overall process from the analysis to the operation of scalable, secure cloud and application architectures.
Within that context, you will design and then realize cloud solutions based on AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform. Your responsibilities will vary depending on whether you join us at a junior or a senior level.

Cloud Architecture

As a cloud architect (m/f/i), you will develop cloud strategies and architectures that integrate aspects of the adjacent systems and business fields. You will be responsible for designing and realizing solutions that are based on the modern cloud infrastructures by AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, and that take non-functional requirements into consideration.
You will design and implement sustainable architectures based on PaaS, CaaS or FaaS platforms, especially in agile projects, meaning you play a key role in the success of a project.

Cloud Architect (m/f/i)

Cloud Consulting

Another significant role in our cloud projects is that of a (senior) cloud consultant (m/f/i): In this role, you will support our customers in the organizational, technological, process-based and business challenges they face as part of the cloud transformation process. You will develop and assist with cloud strategies, business models and architectures, and work with the customer to implement them. The extensive consulting skills you have built up over the years will allow you to offer our customers professional assistance in the strategic implementation of cloud solutions and the modernization of their IT infrastructures.

Wer bist Du und was ist Deine Hauptaufgabe?

Who are you and what is your main responsibility?

My name is Andreas Lehmann and I work as an IT architect for msg Research, a cross division, and I am assigned to the Cloud Computing Center of Competence within that division. In this position, I assume different roles to support a variety of internal and external projects.

Which msg project are you currently supporting to be exact?

At the moment, I am working on msg’s MultiCloud platform. The platform provides an internal self-service portal through which employees can order a subscription. The subscription is then automatically created by the target hyperscaler and delivered with a secure basic configuration so that development can get quickly underway.

I support a few different product teams that are involved in the project and my work spans a variety of roles, whether architect, scrum master or product owner.

What else do you do?

I provide support for all things cloud architecture and cloud infrastructure.

With over 10,000 employees, msg has many circles, networks and communities that all deal with the cloud. I share know-how through the different channels, organize presentations and different formats for communication and exchange, work on career paths for cloud engineers and cloud architects and also host training courses in cloud-related topics, such as cloud basics, IaC with Terraform or container-based deployments with Docker and Kubernetes.

Irina Eurich (Senior IT Consultant)

Who are you and what is your main task?

My name is Irina Eurich and I am Product Owner for Cloud in msg's internal IT department. I mainly take care of our MultliCloud, which enables our employees to order self-service subscriptions from the hyperscalers in order to develop there. I'm also involved in migrating our services from the data center to the cloud, where there are some challenges but also many new opportunities to design services.
My role as Product Owner also includes analyzing requirements and strategic future planning in the area of cloud offerings.

Why do you like working at msg?

Although we are a very large company, there is a very informal working environment everywhere in which great value is placed on collaboration. Good ideas are listened to and actively supported, which leads to a diverse and innovative working environment.

The opportunity to work on challenging projects and make a contribution motivates me every day.

What inspires you about your work?

I really enjoy working in IT because of its versatility. There are always new topics, new developments and therefore new perspectives.

I am also a big fan of agile working methods, which help us to better involve our customers and our developers and thus deliver better services and products.

Advanced training and specialization in the field of the cloud

The cloud forms the basis for digital transformation, which is why it is particularly important at the msg group. It is also why we systematically promote targeted knowledge growth for you within the field of the cloud. At msg there are only three hyperscalers that provide cloud services on an international level that we consider relevant: Amazon (AWS), Google (Google Cloud) and Microsoft (Microsoft Azure).

Our cloud training concept is rooted in training courses that are initially offered independently of specific hyperscalers. We then offer more advanced cloud-agnostic training courses specifically designed for developers and architects, such as “Cloud-Based Deployment with Docker and Kubernetes” or “Cloud Application Development with Java”.

In-depth, hyperscaler-specific training forms the core of our advanced cloud training. Training is generally an external course that is held right at the hyperscaler’s or training partner’s location. As a cloud expert, you will specialize in either AWS, Google Cloud or Azure for the training course, allowing you to obtain the respective certifications one-by-one. A number of hyperscaler-specific training courses are also offered by msg employees or internally at msg.
